community involvement

  • For the past 12 years, Chris Hill has planned and led an urban farm bike ride that attracts around 150 riders a year, and visits 8 to 10 urban farms in the city. The route and locations changes extensively each year. The event benefits Food Moxie, the nonprofit associated with Weavers Way Food Cooperative.
  • Chris Hill has served actively for 10 years on the board of Weavers Way Food Cooperative. He currently serves as President of the board, and has done so for 3 years. He co-founded and serves on the New Economy incubator committee of Weavers Way, which seeks ways to promote and fund cooperative businesses and enterprises in Northwest Philadelphia. One outgrowth of that committee was the Northwest Solar Cooperative, which he serves on the board of.
  • He actively serves on the board of the Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance, which is devoted to improving the lives of people in the Philadelphia region by supporting democratically organized businesses, promoting the principles of the international cooperative movement, and growing the cooperative economy.
  • He has also volunteered for a variety of other organizations, including Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Common Market Local Food Distribution Initiative and Mid-Atlantic Food Cooperative Alliance (MAFCA)
